Train Your Next Steel Detailer
in Tekla Structures

Tekla Authorised Training Centre

Tekla Structures is a substantial investment and investing in proper training will unlock its full potential.

Practical, real-world Tekla training for steel detailers

Give new and developing Tekla users the structured training they need before putting them onto a live project.

Tekcon's online Steel Detailer training takes students progressively through the complete Tekla steel detailing workflow — from building their first model through connections, checking and numbering, to producing fabrication drawings and managing revisions.

US Imperial environment | Self-paced | Approx. 40 hours of training | 26 weeks access

More Than Learning Tekla Commands

There are many excellent resources available for learning the individual tools and commands within Tekla Structures — including free training provided by Trimble.

Tekcon training takes a different approach.

The course has been developed around the way Tekla is actually used on a steel detailing project. Rather than simply completing a collection of individual software exercises, students progressively work through realistic projects and learn how the different Tekla tools come together as part of a complete detailing workflow.

Students learn to:

  • Build structural steel models from engineering information

  • Create and modify steel connections

  • Model plates, bolts, welds and other fabrication details

  • Understand model organisation and good modelling practices

  • Check the model before fabrication information is produced

  • Create general arrangement and fabrication drawings

  • Work through drawing changes and project revisions

The Training Workflow:   MODEL → CONNECT → DETAIL → CHECK → NUMBER → DRAW → REVISE

The objective is not simply to teach someone how to use Tekla, but to help them understand how Tekla is used to detail a real steel project. Across approximately 40 hours of structured training and six practical models, students progressively build models, complete exercises, check their work and produce the drawings and information normally required from a steel detailing project.

Ideal for Training New Employees

Bringing a new Tekla user into a detailing team can require a significant amount of time from experienced staff.

Tekcon's online training provides a structured foundation that a new employee can work through independently, allowing your senior detailers to concentrate their time on your company's standards, procedures and project-specific requirements.

The course can be particularly useful for:

  • Steel detailers who are new to Tekla Structures

  • Graduate or junior detailers beginning their Tekla training

  • Existing CAD/detailing users transitioning to Tekla

Because the training is self-paced, students can complete it intensively over approximately one working week or progressively alongside their normal work.

Developed by a Steel Detailer, for Steel Detailers
Learn from 30+ years of steel detailing and Tekla experience

Tekcon Training was developed by Paul McLeod, a structural steel detailer, Tekla consultant and trainer with more

than 30 years of industry experience.

Paul began structural steel detailing in 1991 and became one of the early users of Xsteel —

now Tekla Structures — in the 1990s. His experience includes steel detailing, Tekla

implementation, technical support, customisation, consulting and professional training.

Don't just teach the software. Teach people how to use the software to do the job.

Why Pay for Tekla Training When Free Training Is Available?

Trimble provides excellent free learning resources for Tekla Structures, and we encourage users to take advantage of them.

Tekcon Training is different. Rather than concentrating primarily on individual software functions, students work progressively through realistic steel detailing projects and learn when, why and how Tekla's tools are used as a project moves from modelling through to fabrication documentation.

For companies, this provides a structured training foundation before an employee moves onto your own live projects, standards and procedures.
